PROJECT: EDITORIAL ILLUSTRATION - VARIOUS
CLIENT: MARINE SOCIETY & SEA CADETS and OUR MEDIA

Our Media produce a magazine called The Sea Cadet for The Marine Society & Sea Cadets (MSSC) aimed at Cadet parents and volunteers.

OBJECTIVE

To create a series of stand alone full page editorial illustrations for The Sea Cadet magazine. The illustrations are commissioned at different times, to feature in different editions of the quarterly magazine.

Each of these commissions are basically the same in that each feature is a one-page ‘cut out and keep’ guide to something useful for Sea Cadets. There is a basic supplied format for each page, with the illustration needing to allow space for text to be added as part of the final layout, which is put together in-house at Immediate Media.

Pictured above is the first illustration I created for The Sea Cadet magazine was to publicise the MSSC’s ScrapPlastic challenge and show the various steps of how to get involved. The challenge was to encourage cadets to take positive action towards looking after the environment, specifically with regard to the use of plastic.

(Having completed this, I was later commissioned directly by MSSC to produce an additional illustration for use on the cover of the ScrapPlastic activity pack and on the MSSC website & social media - shown at the bottom of the page… )

Below are my more recent page illustrations, each with it’s own specific theme and directives…

CLIENT FEEDBACK

“After seeing Carys’s work for Westonbirt [see project here] we thought the she’d be a perfect fit for our illustration on Scrap plastic for The Sea Cadet magazine. Carys called me to go through the style that we like and what should be included, then she was able to go away and come up with something we were all very happy with. The process was extremely smooth and quick, and we are so happy with the results. Thanks Carys.”

- Elaine Knight-Roberts, Art Editor, Immediate Media

“Thank you for all your work – the illustrations have really helped bring the campaign to life.”

- Edward Meens, Communications Manager, MSSC
