I’m Carys and I create illustrations for a better world.

I love people with a vision, the do-ers and the change-makers amongst us who are on a mission to do something good, for the benefit of individuals, communities or the wider world we live in.

I’m inspired by their passion, I admire their spirit and I’m drawn to their energy and drive for making something better.

If this sounds like you, and you’re focused on making a positive difference, for people or planet, then I’m your creative ally!

I want to support and share in your journey, by creating illustrations which make your vision a reality.

I have a high level of experience which comes from working in the creative industries for nearly 30 years (…I know!). As an illustrator, I’ve spent 18 years working independently as ‘Carys-ink’, and before that as a designer for TV.

Over this time, I’ve developed a strong track record of working on socially driven projects and with ethical brands, particularly in areas relating to the environment, health and learning.

This experience, combined with my knowledge about how illustration works means I quickly get to grips with what my clients want and I’m able to guide them through the creative process.

I'm skilled in breaking down detailed information and condensing lots of words into simplified imagery that is fun, friendly and easy to understand.

I’m comfortable interpreting a brief but also unafraid to push back and challenge, in order to achieve the best end result.

As a creative and methodical thinker, I can help you communicate complex ideas and am able to respond calmly to feedback – particularly useful on projects where there are multiple stakeholders.

I take pride in creating high quality and professional illustrations, using a combination of digital and handcrafted techniques. My work is digital (and vector-based, if you’re interested in the technicalities), but I love to incorporate hand-drawn elements and textures, to bring an organic, joyful and more ‘human’ feel. Find out more about my process here.

Having taken the time to understand what you’re trying to achieve and get on board with your ideas, my ultimate aim is to create illustrations which enable you to communicate more effectively with your audience – to share your story, describe a journey or explain a theory – and to help make your vision a reality.

My approach is tailored for specific projects and I can work with you to find a visual language that will speak to your target audience.

I’m here to create illustrations for a better world.

For me this is a world where our environment is cared for and everyone has access to…

Nature and open, green spaces
(or blue, watery ones!)

Healthcare and support

Clean air to breathe

For the good of us all and for the good of the planet.

My values

It’s a delicate balance but my sweet spot for flying high is when all four of my values are in check and working together.
Kite illustration to show values - creativity, optimism, trust, responsibility

Optimism

I value optimism as a way to ensure my work always feels positive, upbeat and hopeful.
It also helps me to fully show up for my clients as their trusted creative ally and deliver work that achieves their goals.

Creativity

My creativity enables me to bring an organic, playful energy to my work.
This playfulness helps give my work a more human feel and ensures what I create is accessible to all.

Trust

Mutual trust is important to me in every client relationship.
I’m proud to be trusted by my clients, which is one of the reasons they come back!

Responsibility

For future generations, I believe we all have a responsibility to improve systems or situations that are broken.

Am I a good fit for you?

I want to work with people I align with, folks who share the same ideals, and who are on the same wavelength. Because I know that this is when I produce my best creative work.

If it feels like we’re well matched, I’d love to chat about collaborating with you…

Carys is exceptional. Working with her has been such a smooth process…In addition to bringing our vision to life with her design work, she’s given us expert advice at every stage and delivered work that’s exceeded our expectations.

Emily Heming

Pickle Street

We are so happy with the final illustrations…they have added much needed colour and movement to our public face. Carys is easy to work with, conscientious, and creative.

Katherine Rothman

The Association For Dance Movement Psychotherapy UK (ADMP UK)

Carys is a very talented illustrator who worked professionally and patiently with us to create a site location map. We were blown away by Carys’s ability to envisage the intended outcome …and bringing that to life without ever visiting our headquarters!
