Vision

To combat loneliness by sparking meaningful connections and conversations

Postcards from the Peaks aims to break the silence around loneliness, using the simplicity of a postcard and the shared adventure of a hike to build genuine connections.

It’s the brainchild of an intrepid and adventurous chap called Stu, is carrying a cast iron Royal Mail Post Box to the highest point in all 15 of the National Parks in the UK to combat loneliness, by sparking meaningful connections and conversations.

I was asked to create a map illustration to chart the route of this fairly madcap challenge!

The illustration is being used to publicise the challenge on the client’s website and social media channels, and has been printed as a postcard that can be sent, as a way to help conquer loneliness.

Illustrated map showing the route around the UK for the 'Postcards from the Peaks Challenge', to combat loneliness by sparking meaningful connections and conversations.Featuring 15 Royal Mail postboxes to mark the highest points being climbed in all 15 of the National Parks in the UK. Hand-drawn and friendly illustration style with notes such as 'How are you' and 'Let's catch up!' written in the sea.

Postcards from the Peaks aims to show how small gestures can create a big impact. Reaching out to people you know, who for whatever reason may feel isolated and alone can make a real difference.

The map illustration, and hand-drawn messages in the surrounding sea give a sense of what the challenge is all about in a way that is fun, friendly and engaging. I particularly love the fact that it’s a pretty convoluted route…Try following the arrows and you’ll see what I mean!

The Postcards from the Peaks challenge took place between May and September 2025.

Carys brought the heart of Postcards from the Peaks to life in one simple piece of design. The postcard became a conversation starter in its own right, people loved it, shared it, and it helped make the act of writing feel inviting for anyone feeling lonely or disconnected. The detail of weaving the messages into the waves was so clever and so beautiful, that a simple message checking in can mean the world to someone and it reinforced the message that people matter.
